BA degree programs
BA Modern Sinology
The BA in Modern Sinology is a so-called “Mono-BA”, i.e. a single-subject BA (as opposed to a two-subject BA, or double major). In this degree program the mayor Chinese is combined with a minor ("subject-external area of competence") such as religion, political sciences or economics. It is aimed at those students who wish to study China in all its linguistic and cultural facets. This study program requires very high levels of motivation and resilience, as students are required to learn the modern Chinese language in both its spoken and written forms, master the basics of classical Chinese and complete both introductory and advanced seminars on topics relating to modern China.
BA Chinese as a Foreign Language (with an optional teaching credential)
The degree program Chinese as a Foreign Language with an optional teaching credential is aimed at those students who have a strong interest in the Chinese language and Chinese characters and in the teaching profession. The degree program is a two-subject BA, which means that the subject Chinese has to be combined with a second subject.
BA Chinese as a Foreign Language (two-subject BA without the teaching credential)
This degree program is aimed at those students who have a strong interest in the Chinese language and Chinese characters. As a general two-subject BA (without the teaching credential), any other subject offered in the two-subject BA programs at the University of Göttingen can be combined with this program. Theoretical subjects (Linguistics, etc.) or a second foreign language are highly recommended.
BA Modern China Studies
For those students who wish to engage in the study of modern China but are less interested in learning the language, the two-subject BA Modern China Studies is just the right choice.
